Former US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism that the visit of the King of the UK to the United States could mend the strained relations between the two countries. Trump hinted that UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer still has a chance to bounce back despite a rocky start.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump criticized the appointment of Peter Mandelson but suggested that Starmer has the opportunity to improve his position. Trump emphasized that implementing strong immigration policies and reopening drilling in the North Sea could be key factors in Starmer’s potential recovery.

Trump has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the UK’s decision to cease drilling licenses in the North Sea, which he believes could benefit American companies. Additionally, Trump’s opposition to wind farms, especially near his Scottish golf course, has fueled his push to resume drilling in the region.

The upcoming state visit of the King and Queen of the UK to the US is seen as a significant opportunity to mend the rift that emerged during Trump’s presidency. Trump expressed confidence that the royal visit could positively impact the US-UK relationship, emphasizing his admiration for the King’s character and bravery.

Despite some concerns raised by UK politicians, such as Emily Thornberry and Ed Davey, about Trump’s unpredictable behavior and the potential for embarrassment during the royal visit, Trump remains optimistic about the visit’s potential to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations. The King’s upcoming meeting with Trump at the White House and address to Congress are expected to be key highlights of the visit.
