A brave adventurer is preparing for a challenging journey across the Atlantic Ocean in a boat the size of a wheelie bin. Andrew Bedwell, a six-foot-tall individual, is aiming to set a new world record for the shortest vessel to cross the ocean. Departing from Newfoundland, Canada, in mid-May, he anticipates the nearly 2,000-mile journey back to the UK, without any support vessel, to take approximately three months.

Motivated by personal loss to cancer, Andrew plans to raise funds for Cancer Research UK during his voyage. The unique micro-yacht, named The Big C Version Two, will be his home during the expedition. Andrew described the conditions inside the boat, highlighting the challenges of bad weather versus more comfortable moments when he can stand up and exercise.

His diet onboard will mainly consist of beef jerky, raisins, and specially prepared food bars for sustenance. Despite the risks involved, Andrew, an experienced sailor who previously journeyed solo to the Arctic in a similar small boat, is determined to push his limits and complete this challenging voyage.

This is Andrew’s second attempt at the transatlantic journey, as a previous endeavor was halted due to a leak in the boat’s frame. Undeterred by setbacks, he rebuilt the vessel and is now prepared for his renewed quest. Beyond personal achievement, Andrew aspires to inspire others to pursue their dreams and overcome challenges, emphasizing the importance of taking small steps towards personal growth and achievement.
