Hundreds of portable phone chargers are being urgently recalled following a series of alarming incidents, including a fatal mishap involving an elderly person.

Approximately 429,200 wireless power banks have been taken off the market due to concerns about potential overheating and fire hazards. These chargers, manufactured by Casely, were initially identified as problematic by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission in April of last year. Reports indicated multiple instances of lithium-ion batteries overheating, swelling, or catching fire while in use, resulting in minor burns for at least six individuals and tragically leading to the death of a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey. The woman sustained severe burns when the charger she was using suddenly ignited and exploded while resting on her lap in August 2024.

In another incident earlier this year, a woman suffered burns when a similar wireless charger she was using onboard a plane caught fire and exploded.

These hazardous chargers are just one of many products currently being recalled over safety concerns. The CPSC recently issued a comprehensive recall announcement due to various risks, including choking hazards, battery ingestion, electric shock, fire, and severe burn risks.

Furthermore, Expandable Magic Pocket Staffs marketed to aspiring magicians have been recalled due to a defect that causes them to unexpectedly open, resulting in over 160 injuries such as eye damage, cuts, and temporary vision loss. Parents are also cautioned about multiple toy recalls, including children’s activity cubes and Montessori-style play sets that pose a choking hazard due to potential small parts detaching. Additionally, certain gadgets containing button batteries, like finger lights and toy laser products, have been identified as life-threatening if swallowed, as they could cause severe internal burns.

Concerns extend to household items as well. Several electric pressure washers sold online have been recalled due to dangerous electrical faults that could lead to electric shock or even electrocution.

Products like Arch Studio tea kettles, Fisher & Paykel gas ovens, adult portable bed rails, portable generators from Generac Power Systems, and computer power supplies from Apex Gaming PCs have also been recalled for various safety reasons, including burn risks, entrapment hazards, and fire risks.

Consumers are advised to discontinue using any affected products immediately and refer to official recall notices for guidance.
