A young woman, aged 24, lost her life in a hit-and-run incident in North Belfast, as confirmed by the authorities. The victim, identified as Raven Adams from Tipperary, was fatally injured in the York Street vicinity. Additionally, a 22-year-old man sustained severe injuries during the same event.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) was alerted to the collision involving two pedestrians at approximately 2:40 am. The driver, a 22-year-old male, absconded from the scene but was later apprehended by the PSNI in the nearby Cavehill area.
Detective Inspector Stewart of the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit stated, “A report was received around 2:40 am regarding a collision with two pedestrians. Allegedly, the pedestrians were hit by a vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man, who fled the scene and was subsequently apprehended by officers in the nearby Cavehill area. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.”
Medical assistance was promptly administered to both pedestrians at the scene by emergency responders. Tragically, the female victim was pronounced deceased at the location, while the injured man was transported to a hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.
Following earlier closures, the road has been fully reopened in the area affected by the incident.
