A young traveler recounts a harrowing experience of being abandoned by the roadside in Thailand after a motorcycle accident. Chloe Foster, 26, was riding pillion when the bike overturned, and the driver fled without seeking help.
The incident took place in the early hours following a full moon party on Ko Phangan island. Struggling to hail a taxi, Chloe accepted a ride from a local British man, feeling a false sense of security due to his nationality and proximity to her hometown.
Describing the crash, Chloe mentioned the bike speeding uphill before flipping over, throwing her several meters away. Knocked unconscious, she was later aided by strangers who informed her that the driver vanished without alerting authorities or waiting for medical assistance.
A nearby doctor and an ambulance eventually attended to Chloe, revealing the extent of her injuries the next day: a broken foot, fractured face, and severe swelling and bruising. Despite receiving treatment, Chloe expressed feeling disoriented and frightened due to language barriers and the unfamiliar environment.
After a week in the hospital, Chloe was discharged but was shocked to discover a £4,000 medical bill due to insurance complications. Although she had coverage, it was invalidated as she had traveled from Vietnam to Thailand, not directly from the UK as required by the policy.
With her family’s help in covering half the expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist with the remaining costs, as Chloe anticipates further medical needs during her recovery. Additionally, Thai authorities have been notified, providing witness statements and video evidence of the unidentified driver involved in the crash.
