Three individuals lost their lives following the disappearance of multiple hikers during an eruption of a volcano in Indonesia earlier today.
The eruption of Mount Dukono resulted in the expulsion of ash up to 10km into the atmosphere while a group of trekkers was exploring the scenic area.
A total of 15 individuals were evacuated from the 1,335m-high mountain. Two porters from the hiking party remained behind to assist rescue teams in recovering the bodies of the deceased individuals, as reported by local police chief Erlichson Pasaribu.
Mount Dukono has seen nearly 200 eruptions since late March, according to the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia.
The location is currently categorized as Level Two on the agency’s volcano alert system, indicating heightened volcanic activity and a call for increased caution.
