Theo Rycroft, a former diplomat, aims to reconcile the estranged brothers in his capacity as private secretary to the King, a position he assumed in December 2024. The siblings have not communicated since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Reportedly, Mr. Rycroft finds the situation exasperating and believes it is time to intervene. A source mentioned, “The mood is, ‘He’s not wrong.’” The assistant acknowledges that the ongoing feud causes distress to the King and sees his role as facilitating a resolution.
Before joining the King’s service, Mr. Rycroft served as a diplomat in various capacities, notably as a minister and deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Paris from 2021 to 2025. He is married to Flora Astor, part of the distinguished Astor family and half-sister to Samantha Cameron, the wife of former Prime Minister David Cameron.
