An assistant to King Charles III is determined to mend the rift between Princes William and Harry, as per reports. Theo Rycroft, a former diplomat, aims to reconcile the estranged brothers in his capacity as private secretary to the King, a position he assumed in December 2024. The siblings have not communicated since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Reportedly, Mr. Rycroft finds the situation exasperating and believes it is time to intervene. A source mentioned, “The mood is, ‘He’s not wrong.’” The assistant acknowledges that the ongoing feud causes distress to the King and sees his role as facilitating a resolution.
Before joining the King’s service, Mr. Rycroft served as a diplomat in various capacities, notably as a minister and deputy head of mission at the British Embassy in Paris from 2021 to 2025. He is married to Flora Astor, part of the distinguished Astor family and half-sister to Samantha Cameron, the wife of former Prime Minister David Cameron.
Known for his composed and strategic approach, Mr. Rycroft has garnered influence within the King’s inner circle. It is hoped that he can leverage his diplomatic skills to bring Harry and William together, especially given his close collaboration with William on significant engagements, such as meeting Donald Trump during the reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace commend Mr. Rycroft for adeptly handling diplomatic challenges and demonstrating sound judgment during the recent royal visit to the US. Sources indicate that Mr. Rycroft advocates for a reconciliation between Harry and William, with a potential meeting between the King and Harry speculated during the latter’s visit to the UK for the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year.
Despite uncertainties about persuading the feuding brothers, Mr. Rycroft remains resolute in his mission. While reports suggest William avoids any mention of Harry following recent controversies, Mr. Rycroft’s reputation within the royal circles is on the rise, positioning him as a respected figure seeking to foster harmony among the royals.
