White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has declined to confirm if Donald Trump will accept the results of the upcoming midterm elections in November. This comes ahead of President Trump’s televised address to the nation, focusing on the theme of “election integrity.”
There have been concerns that Trump, facing a tough challenge in the upcoming congressional elections, might cast doubt on the election process or even contemplate canceling the elections altogether.
Leavitt emphasized the importance of transparency and election integrity, stating that safe and secure elections are vital for the country regardless of political affiliations. She urged both Republicans and Democrats to recognize the non-partisan nature of this issue.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, multiple investigations and audits have debunked allegations of election fraud in the 2020 election. Joe Biden won the election with a significant margin in both popular and electoral votes. When asked about Trump’s stance on the upcoming election results, Leavitt advised waiting for the President’s speech before making assumptions.
House Democratic leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries dismissed Trump’s claims of election interference, stating that they lack any factual basis. In anticipation of Trump’s speech, Jeffries referred to Rep. Jim Himes’ findings from the House Intelligence Committee, emphasizing that U.S. intelligence agencies found no evidence of foreign interference in the 2020 elections.
Jeffries cautioned against Trump’s potential dissemination of unverified information to push unfounded theories of election malpractice, attributing the proliferation of conspiracy theories to the President.
Trump’s address is scheduled for 9 pm ET, translating to 2 am in the UK.
