Vodafone Introduces New 5G Wi-Fi Router for Fast Web Access

Vodafone has launched a cutting-edge way to browse the internet. The company’s latest Wi-Fi router operates using a 5G mobile signal instead of traditional copper or fiber cables, allowing for seamless file downloads and movie streaming.

This innovative router is especially beneficial for households without access to high-speed fiber connections or for individuals seeking greater flexibility. Its portability makes it a perfect fit for renters or students who frequently change residences.

A key advantage of this new system is its effortless setup. Since it operates on Vodafone’s network, there is no need for a technician to visit or perform any wall installations. Users can simply plug the router into a power source, turn it on, and immediately connect to the internet.

It is important to note that this 5G router offers speeds of up to 150Mbps, which is sufficient for activities like streaming Netflix, sending emails, and working from home. However, it falls short of full fiber speeds that can surpass 900Mbps.

For reference, downloading a full HD movie through this 5G router takes approximately 8 minutes, whereas a fiber gigabit connection achieves the same task in just 40 seconds.

To help consumers choose the best option, Vodafone has introduced a new availability checker tool on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full fiber or 5G Broadband would deliver the fastest speeds in their area.

This isn’t Vodafone’s first foray into 5G internet access. While the previous GigaCube device has been discontinued, it has been replaced with this new router.

Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director at VodafoneThree, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, “With Vodafone 5G Broadband, we’re offering homes a truly fast alternative at a great value, without the need for installation or waiting. We aim to provide customers with real choices for high-speed internet, whether through full fiber or powerful 5G Broadband, ensuring speed, convenience, and flexibility.”

Additionally, Three, now under Vodafone’s umbrella, also offers a similar service.

Vodafone’s plans start at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the initial nine months.
