Galatasaray’s midfielder, Lucas Torreira, was assaulted outside a cafe in the Beyoglu district, resulting in minor injuries around his left eye. The attacker, who had a previous criminal record and was under a restraining order, was apprehended by the police as he tried to flee the scene in a taxi.
Reports indicate that the assailant had made threatening remarks about Torreira online prior to the incident. Torreira, who joined Galatasaray in 2022 after leaving Arsenal, has lodged a formal complaint and is pursuing legal action against the suspect.
The altercation took place at a cafe within a shopping mall in the Camiikebir neighborhood. Torreira’s move to Galatasaray came after a successful stint in Turkey, where he clinched the SuperLig title four times since his departure from Arsenal.
Initially signed by Unai Emery at Arsenal in 2018, Torreira’s playing time diminished under Mikel Arteta’s management, prompting him to seek opportunities elsewhere for continuity and a chance to represent Uruguay in the upcoming World Cup.
