“Urgent Recall: Thermos Travel Mugs Pose Injury Risk”

An urgent recall notice has been issued for over eight million Thermos-branded travel mugs due to a dangerous fault that has caused serious injuries, including blindness, to some customers. The alert was issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, warning that the lid stopper of the travel mugs could forcefully eject when opened, potentially causing harm. Officials highlighted that pressure buildup inside the container could lead to the sudden ejection of the stopper with significant force.

The identified issue is linked to several models of containers lacking a pressure relief function.

The manufacturer has received reports of 27 incidents where consumers were injured by the ejecting stopper. Some individuals sustained cuts and impact injuries that required medical attention.

The recall highlights that “Three consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.”

The impacted products include the Stainless King food jars and Sportsman food and beverage bottles, totaling approximately 5.8 million food jars and 2.3 million bottles. These items were available for purchase in prominent US stores such as Walmart and Target, as well as online through Amazon, between March 2008 and July 2024, with an average price of around $30. Specific models subject to the recall are the Stainless King Food Jars (16oz SK3000 and 24oz SK3020) manufactured before July 2023 and the Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles (40oz SK3010).

The affected products were sold in various colors and featured the Thermos logo on the side, with the serial or model number located on the container’s bottom.

Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue using the identified Thermos products and contact the company directly for a complimentary replacement. For certain models, users should discard the stopper and provide photographic evidence, while others may need to be returned using a prepaid shipping label. The products were manufactured in China and Malaysia. Individuals with concerns or questions are encouraged to reach out to Thermos directly for further assistance, either through the company’s website or customer support line.
