A young girl, Millie Rose Hedley, tragically passed away just a day after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Her mother, Kimberley Hedley, described her as a beautiful, loving, and kind-hearted child. Millie had been battling symptoms like bone pain and extreme fatigue for a year before her sudden death on December 22nd last year.
The family is now raising funds to express gratitude to the nurses who looked after Millie during her illness. Kimberley shared that Millie’s condition deteriorated rapidly within 24 hours of diagnosis. Despite her struggles with frequent illnesses, Millie’s vibrant spirit and love for singing, dancing, and dinosaurs made her a unique and cherished individual.
Millie’s dream was to become a “singing, princess archaeologist,” and she shared a special bond with her sister. Her family had repeatedly raised concerns about her health with doctors due to her frequent bouts of sickness. After being rushed to the hospital with severe symptoms, Millie was diagnosed with cancer, but her condition worsened rapidly, leading to her passing shortly after.
The family plans to drive from Newton Aycliffe to Benidorm and back in September to raise funds in Millie’s memory. They aim to raise awareness about the signs of AML, such as fatigue, paleness, breathlessness, weight loss, and joint pain. In remembrance of Millie, a celebration of her life was held in February, where friends, family, and teachers gathered to honor her memory.
