The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that Ukraine notified them of a fire incident at the Dniprovska 750-kilovolt electrical substation on Friday, attributing it to “military activity.” Following the event, the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant was partially disconnected from its external power sources at the request of the grid operator, as confirmed by the UN nuclear watchdog.

Expressing “deep concern,” Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the IAEA, emphasized the critical importance of substations for nuclear safety. According to the IAEA, the Dniprovska substation caught fire due to military activities, leading to the partial disconnection of the South Ukraine nuclear plant from its off-site power supplies, with firefighters currently on site working to extinguish the blaze.

DG @RafaelMGrossi highlighted the significance of safeguarding such critical substations for nuclear safety and assured ongoing monitoring of the situation by the IAEA.
