Ukraine mounted a significant offensive striking multiple regions in Russia, including Moscow and Crimea, in a significant blow to President Vladimir Putin. The barrage marked the beginning of a 40-day intense military campaign ordered by President Volodymyr Zelensky to compel Russia to cease its aggression against Ukraine.

Simultaneously, there were reports indicating a potential Russian assault on Poland or one of the Baltic States as retribution for their support to Ukraine. Belarus, a neighboring country and ally of Russia, was observed bolstering its border defenses under pressure from Putin to align with his halted invasion plans. Prior to the assault, Zelensky sanctioned a 40-day operation aimed at influencing the aggressor state to seek an end to the conflict.

During the operation, approximately 660 Ukrainian attack drones were deployed targeting various sites in Russia, including a chemical plant in the Tula region. This offensive, following Zelensky’s warning of retaliatory actions against Russia, represented one of Ukraine’s most significant deep-strike operations to date.

For the second time in a week, thick black smoke enveloped Moscow amid concerns that Putin might authorize strikes on NATO nations. The targeted Azot chemical plant in Tula plays a crucial role in Russia’s defense manufacturing sector, producing a range of industrial chemicals vital for explosives and ammunition production. Residents reported multiple explosions, drone activity, ammonia odors, and power outages in the area.

The assault extended to two Russian oil refineries in Ufa, located over 1,000 miles from the conflict zone, and an oil depot in the Krasnodar region, 250 miles away from Ukraine, causing further disruptions to Russian infrastructure. Intelligence agencies in Eastern Europe suggested a potential Russian plot to instigate military provocations against Poland or the Baltic States due to their support for Ukraine, though the likelihood of a large-scale attack remained uncertain.

Amid escalating tensions, Russia’s frustration over stalled military progress in eastern Ukraine has led to increased incidents of sabotage, including instances of planted firebombs in various European countries. Ukraine’s advanced drone and missile capabilities have enabled deep-strike attacks reaching over 1,500 miles into Russian territory, intensifying the conflict dynamics.
