A mother from the UK who is in a coma in Gran Canaria is now battling sepsis, according to her family. Initially diagnosed with pneumonia, Emily Casey, 34, was put into a medically induced coma during her family vacation. Despite initially showing signs of improvement, her condition has worsened with the development of sepsis in her bloodstream.
Her husband, Jamie, provided an update from the island, mentioning that doctors were treating her with antibiotics for the sepsis. Unfortunately, Emily’s health took a turn for the worse when pneumonia reappeared in her lungs, complicating the situation. The medical team is struggling to find the right antibiotics for treatment, requiring further blood tests.
Initially, Spanish doctors requested £3,000 for a CT scan upon Emily’s admission due to fluid accumulation in her lungs. Jamie revealed that Emily failed to disclose a recent battle with pneumonia to her insurance company before traveling to the Canary Islands, potentially invalidating her coverage.
Facing financial challenges, Jamie had to return to England to arrange childcare for their children before returning to Spain. As they encounter difficulties in reaching the insurance company, Jamie has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Emily’s medical expenses and repatriation.
Expressing gratitude for the support received, Jamie emphasized the importance of any donation, regardless of size, during this challenging time. The fundraising campaign has already raised £11,000 out of its £15,000 goal. To contribute, visit the provided link.
