Following a stretch of sweltering and humid weather, the Met Office has confirmed that England and Wales are on course to experience the driest July on record.
Saturday is expected to begin with cooler temperatures, accompanied by sunny intervals in the morning. Maximum temperatures are predicted to reach 25-26C, with meteorologists noting a decrease in the recent intense heat.
The Met Office highlighted that England and Wales are moving towards the driest July since records began. The month has been characterized by extreme heat, abundant sunshine, and a notable absence of rainfall.
Preliminary data indicates that England recorded only 5.6mm of rainfall in July, significantly below the previous record of 13.4mm set in 1911.
Similarly, Wales is also experiencing its driest July on record, with just 7.9mm of rainfall, almost a third of the previous record set in 1911.
Northern Ireland is on track for its eighth driest July, while the UK as a whole is heading towards its third driest July. Scotland, having received 72% of its average rainfall for the month, is not currently ranked among the top 10 driest Julys.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill mentioned that Saturday might bring some rain in the north, particularly in Scotland, while other areas are expected to remain mostly dry. Burkill expressed the need for rainfall in several regions, particularly in the south, which have been longing for precipitation.
