A couple from the UK has been apprehended for allegedly abandoning their three young kids in a hotel located in Costa del Sol while they went out to party. The youngest child, a six-month-old infant, was found to have tested positive for cocaine, as reported by the local media.
The children, aged four, two, and six months, are now under the care of temporary social services. Authorities involved in the investigation have expressed concerns about the distressing conditions in which the children were discovered. The hotel room was in disarray, and the eldest child was responsible for looking after the younger siblings.
Following the incident, the regional Junta de Andalucia government has taken custody of the children, who were subsequently taken to Malaga’s Materno Infantil Hospital for a medical evaluation.
The hotel where the family was staying, situated in the well-known Benalmadena resort, has not been disclosed. The National Police of Spain confirmed that a 41-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Britain have been detained on suspicion of child abandonment. Specialized units like UFAM and the Junta de Andalucia’s social services are actively involved in the case.
The couple was taken into custody early on Thursday morning, with plans for them to appear in court for an initial hearing before a judge the next day. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed. The hotel complex where they were accommodated was described as a large establishment on the Costa del Sol.
Local reports suggest that the baby had tested positive for cocaine, although the police have not made any comments regarding this claim.
