Britons have been alerted to the possibility of experiencing a heatwave in certain regions of the UK by the end of the upcoming week, according to meteorologists. Parts of southern UK may witness temperatures soaring to 28C or higher by Thursday, as per forecasts from the Met Office.
The southern and southeastern parts of England are expected to experience the most significant temperature increases, although thunderstorms and rainfall are also anticipated in some areas. Monday is predicted to be dry and stable in many areas, except for the North East where it may be cloudy and cooler with chances of showers and thunderstorms.
Tuesday could bring additional rainfall from the coast, but meteorologist Honor Criswick from the Met Office mentioned that high pressure spreading across the country will lead to warm and humid conditions. Temperatures are expected to surpass the seasonal average in certain regions.
Criswick stated, “The South and South East will witness increasing heat throughout the week. High pressure is building up, and a warm air mass is moving from continental Europe. While it’s uncertain if it will officially be a heatwave, temperatures are certainly on the rise, potentially reaching hot levels by the week’s end, primarily in the South East.”
She added, “Other regions will also experience a rise in temperature, but with high humidity leading to cloudiness, rain, and showers. By Thursday, London is forecasted to reach around 28C, approaching the high 20s.”
Looking ahead, the warm weather is expected to persist. The Met Office’s long-range forecast from June 29 to July 13 predicts dry and settled conditions with temperatures likely above normal. Occasional thunderstorms, especially in southern areas, are also anticipated. Towards mid-July, there might be a shift towards unsettled weather as the influence of high pressure weakens or moves to the north or west of the UK.
