A tragic incident occurred on Saturday at a bungee jumping site in Limeira, São Paulo, Brazil, where a 21-year-old woman lost her life due to the staff’s failure to secure a safety cord. The victim, identified as Maria Eduardo Rodrigues de Freitas, fell 130 feet into a ravine when she was pushed off the platform without the necessary safety equipment.

Prior to the fatal accident, Maria had shared a social media post indicating her location at the ‘Skeleton Bridge’ bungee jumping venue. She uploaded a photo on Instagram with a caption questioning the decision to participate in the jump shortly before her untimely death.

After the incident, two male workers who were involved in the mishap fled the scene but were apprehended with the help of local authorities. Six individuals, including three men aged 27, 32, and 42, were taken in for questioning in connection with the tragic event. The three men arrested at the site have been charged with homicide.

The Civil Police are leading the investigation to determine if any criminal charges will be brought against those responsible for the safety lapse. Additionally, the Limeira City Council plans to file a complaint against the Brazilian federal government regarding the lack of safety measures at the site, as highlighted by the mayor, Murilo Félix.
