Tomorrow, temperatures in some parts of the UK may reach as high as 36C as a heatwave makes a return. This upcoming heatwave marks the fourth one this year but is anticipated to be less widespread than the previous three.
The Met Office forecasts that conditions will turn “hot” in the south-east today, with temperatures expected to reach 29-30C across many areas. However, the warmest weather of the week is expected tomorrow, with potential highs of 36C in parts of East Anglia and the south-east, and 35C in eastern and south-eastern England.
According to data, the Midlands could see highs of 32-33C, with temperatures reaching 31C in Yorkshire. Wales is likely to experience highs of 25C, while Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to be cooler. Temperature anomaly maps for tomorrow show central, eastern, and southern England in dark red, indicating temperatures well above the seasonal average.
The GFS model predicts that 11 counties in England may see temperatures soar to 35C or higher. A heatwave is officially declared when temperatures exceed the threshold for three consecutive days, which is 28C in London and 25C in areas farther from the south-east.
The Met Office describes this week’s heatwave as “short-lived,” with temperatures expected to cool off heading into the weekend. By Friday, temperatures are projected to return closer to average for most of the UK, slightly below average in the far north, and warmer in the far south due to high pressure influence.
