King Charles has concluded a whirlwind four-day state visit to the United States, accompanied by Queen Camilla, during which they were hosted by the President and First Lady in Washington DC. President Trump praised the monarch, referring to him as “fantastic,” “brave,” and “the greatest King.”
However, a recent book reveals a different perspective on Trump’s initial meeting with Charles back in 2019 when Charles was still the Prince of Wales. According to former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, Trump found the conversation “terrible” and expressed frustration that it revolved solely around climate change.
In Susan Page’s new book, “The Queen and Her Presidents,” it is mentioned that Trump was left feeling “bored” by Charles during their first encounter, as they only discussed climate change. Despite Trump’s initial disinterest, he later acknowledged Charles’s commitment to climate change during an interview with ITV.
Over time, Trump’s opinion of Charles evolved, and he commended the monarch for his successful trip to the US. Trump even announced the lifting of Scottish whisky tariffs in honor of King Charles, attributing the decision to the royal couple’s influence.
A senior royal aide emphasized the genuine and respectful relationship between Charles and Trump, noting that the warmth displayed publicly is consistent with their private interactions. The aide highlighted the positive dynamic not only between the King and the President but also among all four individuals involved.
