Donald Trump made a strong statement about the individual who caused a disturbance outside the White House correspondents’ dinner, leading to the evacuation of the US President. The suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was apprehended at the Washington Hilton hotel after chaos erupted among the approximately 2,500 attendees, including Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and other high-ranking US officials. CCTV footage captured the suspect bypassing a security checkpoint in the lobby, where one officer was shot at close range but survived thanks to a bulletproof vest.
The incident occurred at 8:35 pm local time on Saturday night, prompting Trump to criticize the suspected gunman as a “lone wolf whack job” during a subsequent press conference. Referring to the attacker as “a sick person,” Trump emphasized the need to prevent such events from occurring. This marked the third time since 2024 that Trump faced threats from individuals in close proximity, including an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Addressing the heightened security concerns, Trump highlighted the necessity of unprecedented security measures while asserting that societal control would not be compromised. The suspect, hailing from Torrance, California, was found with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives. Law enforcement confirmed that he had no prior criminal record and was not under their surveillance.
The US Attorney for the District of Columbia announced that the suspect would be presented in court on Monday to face charges related to the use of firearms during a violent act. Allen, a part-time teacher and video game developer, was recognized as “teacher of the month” by his employer, C2 Education, in December 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile and social media posts.
