A tragic incident unfolded in Bristol where a mother lost her life in an explosion believed to have been caused by a grenade attack carried out by her ex-partner, as per reports. The man involved also perished in the explosion, and both their identities remain undisclosed. The explosion, which occurred in a serene residential area of Bristol, left the woman’s son and two other relatives with minor injuries, who have since been treated and discharged from the hospital.
Police disclosed that they had been alerted to a domestic-related issue prior to the blast on Sunday. A neighbor, Wayne Smith, described the shocking event, stating that the ex-partner arrived at the woman’s residence with a grenade, triggering the fatal explosion. Residents in the neighborhood felt the impact of the blast around 6:30 am on Sunday, with Mr. Smith recounting the intense shaking of his own house following the incident.
The victim, who was remembered fondly by friends as a remarkable individual working at a tanning salon, received heartfelt tributes. One friend, preferring to remain anonymous, expressed how the victim had recently conveyed her happiness about feeling safe and liberated from her former partner.
Following the explosion at Sterncourt Road in Bristol, law enforcement and emergency services swiftly responded to the scene. Authorities mentioned that while the investigation was in its initial stages, they were not actively seeking any suspects related to the incident.
Superintendent Matt Ebbs made a statement later on Sunday, indicating the tragic deaths of the man and woman and the suspicious nature of the explosion. The families of the deceased were provided with support and updates by specially trained officers during this distressing time. The authorities implemented a safety cordon to facilitate investigations, including specialized searches by the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit as a precautionary measure.
Residents within the cordoned area were evacuated to a temporary shelter, with the police expressing gratitude for their cooperation and understanding throughout the process. The cordon was anticipated to remain in place until at least the evening as investigations continued, with updates to follow. The paramount concern remained public safety, and the authorities assured a gradual reduction of the cordon once it was deemed safe for residents to return to their homes.
