A fundraising campaign has been initiated to support the family of a young child who is currently hospitalized in critical condition after accidentally inhaling a cake decorating substance. The toddler is fighting for his life after inhaling decoration powder while his mother was preparing a birthday cake.
Reportedly, the child is now in a medically induced coma and is reliant on external breathing support. The incident occurred during the preparation of a Bluey-themed cake for a friend’s child. The cake decorating powder, when mixed with moisture, can transform into a paste that may obstruct the airways.
A GoFundMe page was created by a family friend, Rochelle Evrard, detailing that the toddler came into contact with “gold dust powder” during the baking process. This led to him becoming unresponsive, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Rochelle explained, “When the dust is mixed with water it turns to paste – so it immediately blocked Dusty’s lungs.” The child has undergone surgery to clear his lungs and is currently in a critical state in the hospital. Further procedures are planned to adjust his breathing tube and assess his lung condition.
Despite the medical efforts, the child is still dependent on assisted breathing. His parents are continuously by his side as he receives treatment. The family has relocated from the Gold Coast to Brisbane for urgent medical care, incurring significant accommodation expenses. An amount of $11,994 (£6,332) has been raised to assist them during this challenging time.
