Just prior to her tragic death, Ann Widdecombe’s residence was showcased on a popular national television program.
During a rerun of Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House on Discovery+ on July 2, viewers were granted a detailed tour of the former MP and MEP’s house located in Haytor on Dartmoor. Widdecombe, 78, expressed her fondness for the peaceful and secluded nature of her retreat in Devon.
Tragically, shortly after the episode aired, Widdecombe was found deceased at her home, having suffered severe injuries. Authorities have initiated a murder investigation and are treating the incident as a terrorist act.
Celebrity Yorkshire Auction House features celebrities decluttering their homes and often discovering valuable items to be auctioned off for significant profits.
Widdecombe’s appearance on the show was part of the second season, filmed in 2022 and hosted by antiques expert Angus Ashworth.
The episode showcased various areas of the property, such as the front door, garden, library, conservatory, gym, and kitchen, portraying the home as situated on the serene Devonshire coast.
Throughout the show, Widdecombe shared her reasons for choosing to live in the secluded property and displayed items she intended to sell, including a Japanese Satsuma dish, a scarf, a bag, and a teddy bear belonging to her parents.
Following the sale of her possessions on the program, Widdecombe earned £1,445, with the Japanese plate fetching the highest price at £660. The episode aired on July 2 at 6pm on Quest, according to TV listings.
After her appearance on the show, Widdecombe was later discovered deceased at her Haytor residence. The investigation has been taken over by Counter Terrorism Policing due to new evidence suggesting a potential terror motive.
In a statement, Head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, emphasized their commitment to swiftly uncovering the reasons behind the attack and urged the public to provide any relevant information to aid the investigation.
CTP has appealed to the public for assistance in gathering information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
