Three sisters were tragically found dead on Brighton seafront, revealing a previous family tragedy where their mother had also died by drowning. The sisters, Jane Adetoro (36), Christina Walters (32), and Rebecca Walters (31), were swept away from the shore at 5:45 am last Wednesday.
Originally from Uxbridge, North West London, the women’s relatives were unaware of their trip to Brighton that morning. However, they later reflected on the possibility that the sisters might have been honoring the memory of their mother, who had drowned in Birmingham at the age of 43.
The family had experienced turmoil when their mother, Janice, went missing from her home in Erdington, Birmingham, due to stress-related mental health issues. Although reports varied on the date of the tragedy, family members recalled the incident happening either in 2010 or 2012.
An upcoming inquest at Brighton coroner’s court will shed light on the sisters’ deaths. Further details emerged about the women’s lives, such as Jane working as an accountant, Christina’s recent graduation from Brunel University, and Rebecca being remembered as the mischievous and humorous one in the family.
Ajike Adetoro, the sisters’ aunt, emphasized that the girls were content in the weeks leading up to the tragedy and dismissed rumors of foul play, racism, or clubbing involvement. She described the sisters as close-knit, happy individuals who did everything together.
Their father, Joseph, expressed immense grief over the loss of his daughters, describing them as his strength and joy. He fondly remembered their laughter, love, and the impact they had on the family. Police investigations are ongoing, with no evidence pointing to third-party involvement or criminal activity in the sisters’ deaths.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the sisters’ activities in the Madeira Drive area between May 12 and May 13 to come forward. The investigation, known as Operation Ledmore, is focused on determining the circumstances that led to the sisters being in the water.
