Three women are accused of causing the death of a seven-year-old girl due to severe abuse and neglect. Jor’Dynn Duncan passed away at a hospital following cardiac arrest on December 29, 2025. A post-mortem examination revealed that she died from an untreated infection resulting from sharp force injuries, with approximately 90 injuries documented on her body.

The three suspects, Emily Kelly, Barbara Renner, and Elyssa Seymore, were arrested after a comprehensive investigation. Emily Kelly, who had custody of Jor’Dynn despite no family ties, allegedly fabricated stories to hide the abuse, including false claims of a trip to Disney World. District Attorney Raymond Tierney described the abuse as months of systematic cruelty, leading to the child’s tragic death.

Kelly faces murder charges, while Renner and Seymore are charged with manslaughter, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child. Renner’s lawyer argued that her dementia prevented her from being responsible for the child’s care, while Seymore’s legal team denies her involvement in Jor’Dynn’s death.

Jor’Dynn, a second-grade student in Bayport, was remembered as a bright presence by her teachers. The Bayport-Blue Point School District expressed deep sorrow over her death and pledged support to those affected. The district acknowledged the criminal charges related to the case but maintained confidentiality due to privacy concerns and ongoing investigations.
