A tragic incident occurred in central Italy as a tourist shuttle bus crashed, resulting in the loss of six lives and injuries to 34 individuals. The collision involved the bus, a camper van, and two cars on the Terni-Rieti road near the Umbria and Lazio regions’ border on Sunday evening, as confirmed by Umbria regional authorities.

According to reports from Italian news agency ANSA, the regional president Stefania Proietti stated that six of the injured were in critical condition, while two others were receiving treatment for severe injuries. As of Monday afternoon, regional authorities updated that 15 individuals were still hospitalized, with 19 already discharged.

The bus, operated privately, was en route to the Marmore Falls, an ancient Roman waterfall near Terni, as reported by Italian newspaper La Nazione. Proietti characterized the incident as a “catastrophic” mass casualty event, triggering the immediate activation of the regional emergency protocol. The injured were swiftly transported to hospitals in Terni, Perugia, Spoleto, Foligno, and Rieti.

Among the casualties, two individuals from the Tuscan town of Massa were identified as having lost their lives in the bus. Francesco Persiani, the mayor of Massa, extended condolences, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of Paolo Cosci and Graziella Baldini in the tragic accident on the Terni–Rieti highway.
