Nestle, the company behind popular brands like Kit Kat and Aero, is planning to reduce over 450 jobs in the UK, according to a statement by the GMB union. The job cuts are expected to impact various locations across the country, with a significant number in York and Gatwick, potentially affecting Nestle’s factories nationwide.

This decision follows Nestle’s announcement last October of a global workforce reduction of 16,000 jobs. Charlotte Brumpton-Childs, the GMB National Secretary, expressed concern over the impact of these job cuts on communities that rely on Nestle’s products and workforce stability.

In response, a Nestle spokesperson reiterated the company’s commitment to managing the workforce changes responsibly through consultation with employees. The company aims to implement the reductions in a transparent manner, prioritizing communication with those affected.

Nestle’s decision to streamline its workforce aligns with its strategic goal to adapt quickly and strengthen its position in the industry. The restructuring is projected to target approximately 12,000 white-collar professionals, with anticipated cost savings of around one billion Swiss francs per year by 2027.
