Provincial authorities have disclosed the discovery of a third set of human remains at a property close to Smiths Falls in eastern Ontario. The latest remains have been confirmed to belong to Lawrence Bertrim, who was last sighted in downtown Smiths Falls in September 2022. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, with no charges filed as of yet. A reward of $50,000 for any information leading to a conviction in his case is still being offered by the police.

At the time of his disappearance, Bertrim was 42 years old. Detective Inspector Jennifer Patton from the OPP expressed that finding Lawrence Bertrim is a significant breakthrough for his family, who have been waiting for answers for nearly four years, as well as for the investigative team who have been diligently working on this case. The police acknowledge the public’s interest in the discovery of three missing persons on the same property and urge patience as the investigation progresses.

Bertrim’s remains were discovered on August 6 on the Kelly Jordan Road property, a day after the police revealed the recovery of another missing man, Robert Lambert, on the same premises in July. Although no charges have been laid in Lambert’s case, authorities had earlier indicated suspicion of foul play.

Notably, the remains of Robbie Thomson were also found on the same property in October 2025. Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with his death, including three suspects facing first-degree murder charges.
