The recent unveiling of the most popular loyalty programs in the UK has identified Tesco Clubcard as the leading choice.

The Retail Loyalty Index conducted a survey with 2,200 participants to evaluate loyalty schemes at 51 major UK retailers.

Participants were questioned on their satisfaction levels with the loyalty programs, likelihood of recommendation, the personalized nature of rewards, and the security of handling personal data by the retailers.

Each retailer received a rating out of ten based on these criteria to determine their ranking in the survey.

Tesco Clubcard emerged as the top performer with an impressive score of 8.38. Shoppers praised the program for being “very generous” with a wide range of redemption options, making shopping “more affordable and convenient.”

Tesco achieved the highest score for customer retention at 9.16, with customers integrating Clubcard into their regular shopping routines.

Members of the Clubcard scheme earn one point for every £1 spent both in-store and online. Upon collecting 100 points, customers can redeem £1 for in-store purchases or £2 with partner outlets such as Disney+, restaurants, and travel destinations.

Following closely in second place is Leon Club with an overall score of 8.20, excelling in satisfaction (8.05) and recommendation (8.28).

The Leon Club app users accrue 100 points for every £1 spent, earning a complimentary menu item upon reaching 3,000 points.

Feedback from users highlights the scheme’s user-friendly nature and attractive benefits. Users appreciate the speed and cost-effectiveness of accumulating rewards compared to other loyalty programs. Despite store restructuring due to administration, Leon’s loyalty scheme continues to thrive.

Consumer specialist Harry Wallop remarked, “Among the plethora of reward schemes available, how many truly engage consumers with genuine enthusiasm?

“This study sheds light on how the best schemes not only offer discounts but also entice customers to visit shops, cafes, or restaurants.

“Discounts are important, evident in the popularity of Leon’s free meals for Club members and the diverse rewards for Tesco Clubcard holders.”
