My daily work involves investigating fraudulent schemes, conversing with victims, and monitoring the latest trends in financial deceit for MoneyMagpie.

Currently, a notable pattern demands attention. Contrary to common belief, it is not the elderly but rather the younger generation falling prey to scams.

Despite the prevailing notion that older individuals are most susceptible to fraudulent activities, recent data and firsthand experiences reveal a growing trend – Gen Z is increasingly becoming the prime target, falling victim and losing money.

This shift is not due to negligence but rather the fact that scams have adapted to mimic the everyday routines of young people.

The concerning revelation is that younger individuals not only encounter more fraudulent schemes but are also more likely to suffer financial losses as a result.

Studies indicate that 49% of Gen Z individuals targeted by scams end up losing money, a higher percentage compared to just 32% of Baby Boomers.
