Nicola Sturgeon firmly denies any prior knowledge of her estranged husband’s criminal activities, following his admission to embezzling £400,310 from the SNP. Peter Murrell, a former long-standing party chief executive, confessed to the embezzlement charges in court. The embezzlement took place between August 2010 and October 2022, with Murrell acknowledging a revised indictment that lowered the embezzled amount from over £459,000.

In response to her ex-husband’s guilty plea, Sturgeon expressed a mix of emotions, including anger, hurt, and sadness, emphasizing the distress caused to her family, friends, and the SNP. She conveyed her pain at being deceived and betrayed by someone she loved and trusted, stating that she had no inkling of his misuse of party funds. Sturgeon expressed shock and disbelief at Murrell’s actions, clarifying that she was completely unaware of his activities and was exonerated after a thorough investigation.

Acknowledging the potential political ramifications of the situation, Sturgeon emphasized the personal toll it has taken on her and the need to focus on healing and moving forward. She expressed a commitment to overcoming the trauma and embarking on a new chapter in her life.
