Police in Wellington have initiated an inquiry following a woman’s report of a brutal assault involving physical violence and rape. A male suspect, aged in his 20s, has been apprehended in Sussex, approximately 150 miles away, on suspicion of rape and is currently under police detention. The victim recounted being attacked and sexually assaulted by the perpetrator in the early hours of May 22 in the North Street vicinity around 2:20 am, after which he fled the scene in a vehicle.
Following the incident, the woman received medical treatment at a hospital and was subsequently discharged, with additional support services extended to her. The suspect was arrested during the night, and his car was impounded, as per reports from Somerset Live. Detective Inspector Wendy Fellowes is affiliated with Operation Bluestone, a specialized unit within Avon and Somerset Police dedicated to investigating severe sexual offenses, including rape.
