A woman experiencing chest rashes attributed them to the stress of moving into a new home, only to later find out it was cancer. Faith Hinitt noticed an itchy, red rash on her chest when she became a homeowner in June 2023. She associated the rash with the stress of moving and starting a new job. Additionally, she had fatigue, night sweats, and hip pain, which she attributed to the upheavals in her life.

Faith, a 27-year-old holiday park assistant manager, ignored the symptoms until a dentist recommended a blood test in October 2023 due to her unresponsive gum infection treatment. Following this, a visit to A&E on October 7th led to the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia, a fast-progressing blood cancer.

Undergoing chemotherapy, Faith is awaiting her second stem cell transplant for a chance at remission. She encourages others to seek medical attention if they notice unusual symptoms. Reflecting on her experience, she emphasized the importance of listening to one’s body and not dismissing seemingly minor issues.

Faith expressed gratitude to her dentist for pushing her to seek medical help, acknowledging the pivotal role the dental appointment played in her diagnosis and treatment. She remains optimistic about her upcoming second stem cell transplant in June, viewing it as her best chance for remission.

Leukaemia, a cancer affecting white blood cells, progresses rapidly, requiring prompt treatment. Common symptoms include tiredness, breathlessness, frequent infections, and unusual bruising or bleeding. The primary treatment is chemotherapy, with some cases necessitating a bone marrow or stem cell transplant for advanced care.
