A man who was driving under the influence at high speed and caused a fatal crash that killed a teenage passenger has been sentenced to jail. The incident involved 23-year-old Kyle Patrick and his 19-year-old passenger, Erin Slane, who tragically lost her life in the accident.

The crash occurred on a secluded road in Perthshire, Scotland, where Patrick was driving at speeds reaching 119mph. Moments before the crash, Erin had sent a message expressing her fear about Patrick’s impaired state while driving.

The court heard that the car lost control, veered off the road, and rolled over multiple times before coming to a stop. Erin suffered fatal head injuries, while another friend, Keira Jones, survived the crash.

Patrick, from Scone, Perthshire, admitted to causing Erin’s death by dangerous driving and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Investigations revealed that he had been drinking with friends before offering people rides home, leading to the tragic events of that night.

The judge emphasized the severity of Patrick’s actions, stating that his reckless driving while impaired by alcohol had devastating consequences. He acknowledged the young age and potential future of Erin, expressing sympathy for the grief her family is enduring.

In addition to the dangerous driving charge, Patrick also admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol. The court highlighted the deliberate and prolonged nature of his dangerous driving behavior that led to the tragic loss of life.
