EDF is providing complimentary fans and energy credit this summer to assist households facing difficulties in staying cool.
The energy company is introducing new Heatwave Relief Packs as part of a £1 million effort to aid vulnerable customers during periods of intense summer heat.
Following the UK’s record high June temperature of 37.7C last month, amber and yellow heat health alerts are currently in effect across England, with temperatures forecasted to reach 35C.
Approximately 10,000 EDF customers struggling to maintain a cool home are expected to benefit from this initiative. Eligible households will receive personalized support valued at up to £100, which may include:
EDF will identify qualifying customers through its support teams, referrals from trusted partners and community organizations, and direct customer outreach channels.
Joe Souto, EDF’s Director of Retail, stated, “Just as vulnerable households require extra support to stay safe and warm during sharp temperature drops in winter, the same assistance should be available during dangerously high temperatures.”
He added, “With the increasing occurrence of heatwaves, support for vulnerable customers needs to adapt. Our Heatwave Relief Packs offer practical assistance when needed, ensuring those most in need can stay safe without concerns about the cost of operating essential cooling devices.”
Energy bills have recently risen following Ofgem’s 13% price cap increase on July 1, with the typical household paying by direct debit seeing the cap rise from £1,641 to £1,862 annually.
The price cap is set to remain in effect until October, with households cautioned that bills will remain high. Cornwall Insight estimates that a typical household can expect a bill of £1,849 in October, particularly impactful as heating usage increases with dropping temperatures.
