The Royal Family’s travel expenses surpassed £3 million last year, with £160,733 allocated for just four trips on the Royal Train. Prince of Wales led the list of costly royal journeys for the first time, notably with his £130,106 official visit to Saudi Arabia in February 2026, inclusive of preliminary trips by staff.
Notably, the King and Queen’s state visit to Italy in April 2025 incurred £126,946 in travel costs. Another significant expense was Prince William’s tour of Brazil for the Earthshot Awards and COP summit, amounting to £79,000.
These details were disclosed in the royal family’s annual financial report, covering the period up to March 2026. The report details all official journeys costing over £20,000, totaling 37 trips during that year. Among these, 13 involved the King, primarily within the UK.
The report includes various journeys, such as the King and Queen’s visits to Italy and the Vatican City, along with other royal members’ official trips to different destinations worldwide. Additionally, the report highlights the increasing core funding for the monarchy, set to reach £100 million annually by 2027-28. This boost aims to address maintenance backlogs, enhance cybersecurity, and implement energy-efficient systems in royal residences.
