Multiple individuals, including a 14-year-old, sustained serious injuries following a police pursuit that ended in a car crash in East London. Authorities initiated the chase around 12:30am, leading to a collision with another vehicle outside a Tesco Extra store in Goodmayes. An air ambulance and specialized paramedics were dispatched to the location.
The driver, a woman in her twenties, along with four passengers, collided with a second car at the junction of High Road and Barley Lane near Goodmayes station. Paramedics provided initial treatment to ten individuals at the scene, with nine requiring further medical attention at a hospital. One individual opted not to receive additional aid.
The Metropolitan Police disclosed that the five most severely injured individuals range in age from 14 to 46. Additionally, the driver of the second vehicle, two passengers, and a moped rider received treatment from the London Ambulance Service.
Law enforcement arrested the driver of the suspected stolen car on charges of dangerous driving, theft, and failing to stop. The driver’s four passengers, including a woman in her forties, a teenage girl, and two men in their twenties, were also apprehended on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle. All suspects remain hospitalized.
Witnesses reported a loud crash and sirens in the vicinity around the time of the incident. Farhan, an employee at Flames Pizza Oven near the Tesco Extra, observed multiple police cars on Goodmayes High Road pursuing a vehicle. Two injured men were visible at the crash site.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed responding to a road traffic collision at the Barley Lane and Goodmayes Road junction, deploying various resources to assist the ten patients on-site.
As a result of the crash, High Road is currently closed in both directions between Goodmayes Road and Eccleston Crescent, impacting bus routes 86 and 364. The Metropolitan Police urge anyone with relevant information about the incident to come forward.
