The recent surge in temperatures across the UK this May led to thunderstorms in various regions. Residents in Witherley were jolted awake by thunder, with one bungalow directly hit by lightning, sparking a fire.

Emergency services arrived at Orchard Close in Witherley at 3:45 am to find the bungalow engulfed in flames. Fortunately, all occupants had safely evacuated the premises. Fire crews attempted to enter the property but had to retreat due to the intensity of the flames bursting through the roof.

Efforts were redirected to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties, successfully containing the blaze. Crews from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service remained on-site to monitor the situation and extinguish any remaining hotspots.

A spokesperson emphasized the importance of quick reactions during fires and advised on simple safety measures for households to ensure a swift and safe evacuation. Awareness of escape routes, keeping them clutter-free, and planning exit strategies were highlighted as crucial steps for fire safety.
