A mother is currently in a coma following a collision while riding an electric scooter in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, that occurred just after midnight on Sunday, May 10. Tania Kerr, a woman in her 40s and a mother of five, was struck by a small white sedan while riding the e-scooter around 12:20 am. The driver of the sedan did not stop at the scene, prompting police to release a CCTV image of the vehicle they are seeking.
The woman’s partner made a plea outside the Royal Melbourne Hospital for the driver to come forward, expressing frustration and shock at the hit-and-run incident. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
Tania suffered severe head and spinal injuries as a result of the incident. Her partner, Kayla Grech, expressed strong emotions when speaking to the media, condemning the act of leaving someone injured on the roadside.
Victoria Police Sergeant Emile Caggiati criticized the driver’s actions as “deplorable” and urged e-scooter riders to prioritize safety by wearing helmets and utilizing high-visibility gear and lights, especially at night. The sergeant emphasized the importance of not fleeing the scene of an accident and encouraged the responsible party to contact the authorities to address the situation.
