Flights to popular European destinations have been disrupted, stranding passengers just before the summer vacation season. Major aviation issues were experienced in countries like Italy, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK, resulting in the cancellation of 63 flights and rescheduling of 1,755 others.
The exact cause of these disruptions remains unclear, but airlines worldwide have expressed concerns regarding rising jet fuel costs and potential supply shortages. The disruption in jet fuel supply can be traced back to the US-Iran conflict, which escalated after joint strikes by the US and Israel on key Iranian sites. As a result, Iran retaliated by targeting locations across the Middle East and temporarily closing the vital Strait of Hormuz trade route, through which a significant portion of global oil trade passes. This event has severely impacted global oil supply, consequently affecting air travel operations.
Among the affected airports, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport experienced the most significant disruptions, with 313 delayed flights and 13 cancellations. Air France was the airline most affected, with 117 flight delays and 17 cancellations reported. Other major carriers such as United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Eurowings, Condor, Air Dolomiti, Transavia Airlines, and Norwegian Air Sweden also faced disruptions according to Travel and Tour World.
