Morrisons is set to implement AI-driven checkout technology in 200 of its stores to significantly reduce waiting times. The supermarket’s new Evercheck system utilizes real-time computer vision to compare scanned items with those in a shopper’s basket. If an item is missed, a gentle on-screen prompt will guide the customer to rectify the error.
According to Morrisons, this technology, developed by Everseen, aims to enhance customer experience by minimizing interruptions, shortening queues, and reducing the need for staff assistance during checkout. The system will be integrated into existing self-checkout systems rather than replacing them entirely.
Francesca Bezoari, Store Support Office Director at Morrisons, emphasized the partnership with Everseen as a means to offer fast and seamless checkout experiences while enabling staff to focus on exceptional service. The technology is designed to streamline the checkout process, allowing store employees to dedicate more time to assisting customers.
Everseen clarified that the technology does not employ facial recognition and focuses on analyzing transactions rather than identifying individuals. It ensures a smooth checkout process by prompting shoppers to correct any potential errors detected during scanning.
Joe White, CEO of Everseen, stated that Morrisons values AI solutions that enhance operational performance without compromising customer satisfaction. The Vision AI platform aims to boost customer satisfaction scores while supporting Morrisons’ service transformation.
Everseen noted that its technology is currently operational in over 150,000 checkouts and 10,000 stores globally. With Morrisons operating approximately 500 supermarkets, the initial rollout is expected to cover a significant portion of its larger stores.
Specific details regarding the stores receiving the technology and the completion timeline for the rollout have not been disclosed by Morrisons at this time.
