Following a prolonged wait for treatment at Exeter Hospital, where delays were highlighted in a recent report, Marie’s daughter Rachael expressed disappointment in the healthcare system’s handling of her mother’s case. Despite the NHS standard of commencing treatment within 62 days of referral, Marie faced a 92-day gap between diagnosis and treatment initiation.
Rachael, seeking alternative opinions, consulted a liver specialist who recommended comprehensive scans and immunotherapy for Marie’s condition, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention. Disheartened by the NHS’s prognosis of limited life expectancy and minimal pain management, Rachael took proactive steps to explore treatment options abroad.
Opting for treatment at the Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation in India, the Stibbe family initiated a fundraising campaign to cover the expenses.
