Millions of voters are set to participate in the upcoming local elections taking place on Thursday. The elections will cover various regions in England, as well as the devolved administrations of Scotland and Wales.

In England, approximately 5,000 seats are available across 134 councils, including all 32 boroughs in London. Wales will see the election of 96 members of the Senedd across 16 constituencies under a new proportional voting system. In Scotland, 129 seats will be contested at Holyrood.

Results are expected to be released starting early Friday morning for English councils, while Wales and Scotland are projected to announce results later in the afternoon. Some areas in England may continue counting until Saturday due to various factors affecting the process.

Declaring the results can be subject to delays such as ballot verification, counting issues, recounts, and voter turnout. The election night will unfold gradually without a dramatic exit poll, unlike in a General Election, with results gradually emerging overnight.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, after which counting will commence. The first results are anticipated from locations like Broxbourne and Halton around 1am, followed by subsequent declarations from various regions throughout the night.

As the night progresses, key battles to watch include the potential challenges faced by different parties in specific regions. The process will continue through the following day, with results expected at different times throughout Friday, with the final outcomes to be revealed by Saturday evening.

In Wales, the Welsh Parliament election outcomes will be unveiled on Friday afternoon, with results from different regions trickling in at varying times. The process will culminate in a full picture of the election landscape by the evening, providing insights into the political dynamics across the regions.

Observing the results unfold will offer valuable insights into the shifting political landscapes and potential challenges faced by different parties in the local elections.
