Travelers passing through a bustling airport have been alerted about potential exposure to a case of measles. Health authorities in New Jersey disclosed that an individual was diagnosed with the highly contagious illness after returning from international travel and transiting through Newark Liberty International Airport.

According to CBS News, people who were present at Newark Liberty’s Terminal B between 5:30 am and 9:00 am on April 14 might have been exposed to measles. Additionally, officials cautioned about a possible exposure at the Hackensack University Medical Center pediatric emergency department on April 18.

Common symptoms of measles include a high fever, cough, sneezing, watery and red eyes, and a rash. Health experts mentioned that symptoms could manifest as late as May 11 if the virus was contracted. So far, no related cases have been identified.

Measles can spread through the air or via mucus or saliva from an infected person, with the virus lingering in the air for up to two hours after the infected individual has left. The most effective preventive measure against measles and its complications is the MMR vaccine.

Meanwhile, in the UK, parents are being urged to review their children’s vaccination records due to the ongoing measles outbreak across the country. The UK Health Security Agency issued a warning to families to stay informed about symptoms and immunization amidst concerns over declining vaccination rates.

Recent data shows that England has confirmed approximately 235 measles cases in the early weeks of 2026, with infections now reported in all regions.
