Students and faculty members residing at a city center housing complex in Manchester were evacuated on Monday afternoon due to the establishment of a security cordon surrounding the building.
Emergency response teams, including police, paramedics, and firefighters, quickly responded to the Bridgewater Heights housing block on Great Marlborough Street around 1:15 pm following reports of a carbon monoxide leakage.
Residents were safely evacuated while investigations commenced. Bottles of water were observed on the ground outside the cordoned-off pavement and entrance.
Gas monitors were utilized to inspect the building, with emergency crews working in tandem with gas network operator Cadent. The incident attracted five fire engines and multiple police vehicles to the scene, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.
A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated that five fire engines from various locations in Greater Manchester were dispatched to address a carbon monoxide leak at a high-rise building on Great Marlborough Street in Manchester. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and utilizing gas monitors are ensuring the safety of the area and residents in collaboration with Cadent Gas. Firefighters continue to be present at the location.
