A man has been sentenced to jail for causing the death of his girlfriend in a head-on crash on a dual carriageway while being pursued by the police. Kane Farragher, aged 24, was driving his BMW in the wrong direction on the A19 when it collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of 24-year-old Taylor Jenkins. Farragher, who was under the influence of drugs and reached speeds of 136mph, admitted to the charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

Following the incident, Farragher was sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison by Newcastle Crown Court. The collision also left a friend of Farragher’s in the back seat with severe injuries. Farragher’s BMW, flagged as a vehicle of interest to the police, was involved in a high-speed chase where he evaded capture by driving recklessly and eventually crashing into a taxi.

Despite the fatal outcome of the crash, Farragher emerged with minor injuries, while his girlfriend lost her life, and his friend sustained serious injuries. Farragher, who was already disqualified from driving at the time due to a previous ban, had a history of offenses related to dangerous driving and drug use.

During his sentencing, Farragher showed remorse and accepted responsibility for his actions, which included driving under the influence of drugs and causing serious harm to his friend. The family of Taylor Jenkins expressed their grief over the loss of their loved one, highlighting her positive impact on those around her and requesting privacy and compassion during their mourning period.
