Global icons Madonna and Shakira are set to headline the inaugural World Cup final halftime show, expected to captivate hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. The lineup was unveiled by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in a lively social media video that featured beloved characters from Sesame Street, the Muppets, and the popular South Korean boy band BTS. The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on July 19 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino, who shared the event details on Instagram, announced the show’s plans in March last year. An estimated 7 million fans are anticipated to attend the event in the United States, with a global television audience exceeding one billion viewers.

This year’s halftime show aims to support the Fifa Global Citizen Education Fund, with the goal of raising $100 million to enhance access to education and football for children worldwide. Half-time entertainment has emerged as a significant aspect of American sports events, particularly during the Super Bowl.

Notably, Madonna headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2012, while Shakira graced the stage with Jennifer Lopez during the 2020 event. Last summer, Fifa hosted a halftime show at the MetLife Stadium during the Club World Cup final, where Chelsea triumphed over Paris St Germain 3-0.

The upcoming World Cup, featuring 48 teams, is set to kick off on June 11 and will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
