“M5 Closed Near Bristol Airport: Significant Delays Expected”

There are significant delays on the M5 near Bristol Airport this evening due to a police incident causing the motorway to be closed in both directions near Avonmouth. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes as there are delays of 65 minutes northbound and 20 minutes southbound. The closure affects the M5 between J18 and 19 southbound and between J21 and J18 northbound. National Highways has reported that the closure is led by Avon & Somerset Police, with southbound traffic being turned around. Drivers are experiencing delays of up to 60 minutes in both directions. One driver mentioned a lack of communication during a nearly two-hour standstill on the M5. Normal traffic conditions are not expected to resume until 11:30 pm, according to National Highways.
